The organization was founded in 1954 with the mission to facilitate economic self-reliance and an improved quality of life for minority and underserved persons through education, empowerment and self-respect. In recent years, ULK has focused on community development and enrichment through programs in housing, workforce development, healthcare, education and entrepreneurial services.
