Singing Girls of Texas (SGT) is a professional-level young treble choir program with three core ensembles and was founded in 2001 as a sibling organization to the Grammy award-winning Texas Boys Choir. Students in the Training Choir, Chamber Choir, or Tour Choir attend school at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA), which is an auditioned public fine-arts charter school. Training for SGT members begins in 7th grade through our auditioned ensemble, SGT-Training. As singers grow in their musicianship and confidence, they’re able to move through the organization by participating in the non-auditioned Chamber Choir, or by auditioning for the Tour Choir beginning in 9th grade. Chamber is an option for those wishing to continue their choir training while also pursuing other artistic disciplines at our school while Tour Choir is an advanced performance-based ensemble that participates in regional, national, and international tours. Members in SGT are enveloped in a truly artistic and educational experience through varied and relevant repertoire, collaborative experiences like composer Q&As, clinics, and newly commissioned works, and through peer-to-peer mentoring and leading in sectionals, projects, and fully student-led rehearsals. Our students also learn rehearsal techniques, conducting, programming, IPA, Diction, and servant leadership. SGT engages its audiences and community with concerts that involve audience participation and creative concert programs that touch the hearts and lives of all those involved. The mission of the Singing Girls of Texas is to provide any student, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic background, religious affiliation, or gender expression a nurturing environment in which to learn the fundamentals of world-class vocal performance, develop personal excellence, and inspire a lifelong passion for choral artistry. This year, singers in SGT Tour Choir are heading to Colorado to perform in the Winter Park Ski Music Festival! Help us to give this awesome opportunity to our students by sharing a meal with us!
