The mission of The Coordinating Center is to partner with people of all ages and abilities and those who support them in the community to achieve their aspirations for independence, health and meaningful community life. What began as a small nonprofit organization committed to helping children who were ventilator dependent, and living in hospitals transition back to homes in the community with their family, is now a comprehensive, innovative and nationally recognized organization. The Coordinating Center is skilled at navigating complex systems and connecting people to the services and supports they need to live in the community. Today, The Center’s team of over 300 coworkers (licensed nurses and social workers, community health coaches, service coordinators and housing coordinators) support more than 10,000 children and adults with disabilities and complex needs across the state of Maryland. Contributions received benefit The Coordinating Center’s Family Resource Fund, which was established by coworkers to support clients critical needs, as well as improve their quality of life. This fund provides critical financial assistance when no other funds exist, providing support for items such as emergency housing, respite, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, dental and vision care, transportation, and other critical needs. The Center’s target population are children and adults with rare and expensive medical needs; children and young adults with Autism; people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity; and people with disabilities and older adults, who live in the community and want to remain in the community or are living in a Maryland nursing facility and want to move to home.
