We service previously Redlined areas across New York City . The mission of Blacklining Foundation is to reverse the negative effects of Redlining by breaking the generational curses. Our population are marginalized communities that are plagued with poverty and social disorganization. Every year we host 3 events to support the community, Back to School Rally, Winter Essential GiveBack and Spring Forward Community. This year we will host our annual Spring Forward Community Event in East Harlem. Living in high-poverty neighborhoods limits the ability for individuals to purchase needed essentials. In East Harlem, 23% of residents live in poverty, compared with 20% of NYC. Spring Forward Community Event is a positive and forward looking event that symbolizes growth, renewal, and progress. During the Spring Forward Community Event we will provide attendees with information on local resources, provide free essential items for the spring season and foster a sense of community engagement and wellbeing. The overall goal of the Spring Forward Community Event is to help the community members start the spring season with a sense of empowerment, knowledge, and connection to the resources available in their community. Last year we were able to service 200 families and provide them with the necessary spring essentials to eliminate financial stress. We want to double our efforts this year.
