Why We're Raising

Our inner city high school is named after Galileo Galilei, a mathematician, astronomer, and physicist. (Feb 15,1564-Jan 8,1642) Galileo was born in Pisa, Italy, and studied at the University of Pisa (1581-1585). Galileo also found that the speed at which bodies fall does not depend on their weight. He documented these discoveries in his book called, "De Motu" (meaning "On Motion"). Money raised goes towards teacher grants for classrooms, lab supplies and field trips; college and career prep workshops for students and their parents; student leadership opportunities; wellness workshops; annual teacher/staff appreciation luncheon; freshman orientation reception; and senior graduation activities.
